AFL star Jack Riewoldt reflects on the ‘biggest injury of his career’

At 19 years of age, Jack Riewoldt – in just his second year at the Richmond Football Club – was dealt, by his own admission, the biggest injury of his career.

He hadn’t broken a leg, twisted a knee or torn a hamstring.

“I had a tri-colour mole on my back,” Riewoldt told 9NEWS.

Being diagnosed with melanoma instantly stripped Riewoldt of his youthful invincibility, and left him nervously awaiting his fate.

“I was extremely fortunate that I was able to remove the area of the melanoma and haven’t had any complications since then. Touchwood.”
